It was on that rainy day, when the train seemed to be taking forever getting to it's destination. And I was going to be late for work, again. My school uniform was soaked from the down pour, and my hair was matted to my face. My homework was wet, and my satchel was lying on the ground, making a puddle at my feet. People were talking on their cells, and others were taking naps as the loud train slowly made its way to Suncity.
Then for some reason, my reflection in the window began to form as buildings passed by. I almost didn't recognize it at first, it had been so long. Last time I saw myself, I was short, and had short bangs with big brown eyes over the band-aids on my cheeks. I was about 7. Or was it 8? Man, that was ages ago. I remember saying how much I never wanted to grow up, and saying how mean older kids were. And now I am one. Time passed by so fast I barely remember growing up. High School was a nightmare, and here I am...college, grown up, job and school. My life had gone from happy and long to short and fast. I gazed at my reflection, and stared through it. Somehow I never realized how much time had passed...I had no time to notice.
The train finally came to a stop, and I stepped off, helping an elderly woman. I thought about a lot as I walked to my next class. And by the time I got there, I pulled out my cell, and typed a number I hadn't used in a while. It rang for a moment, and the finally I heard a voice I hadn't heard in forever. I smiled briefly...it had been 6 years. A tear of joy slid down my cheek as I said almost as a whisper... "Hi, mom."
